ULTRAVIOLET (UV)
Disinfection with ultraviolet systems is the method of removing microorganisms by ultraviolet rays. Ultraviolet rays break down the DNA structure of microorganisms and make them ineffective. With this system, ultraviolet rays must strike directly on the microorganisms in order to be able to kill them. For this reason, parameters such as turbidity and sedimentation in water should be zeroised by a very effective filtration, before entering the ultraviolet system. In order for the ultraviolet lamps to operate efficiently, the number of lamps must be adjusted correctly according to the water flow rate, they must be replaced at the latest yearly and quartz glass cleaning should be done periodically. If this cleaning is not done, the UV radiation efficiency will decrease and the device’s performance will fall.
